Make a Popup to Build Your Email Opt-In List

datePosted on 03:14, December 29th, 2009 by Robert Ward

One of the most effective methods to capture emails for your opt in list is to make a popup window on your web site. Most website owners do not realize the potential and power of making popup windows for their web sites and that popup software can be used in building the mailing list of the potential customers. If you are thinking of creating an opt-in form on your blog or sales page, and hope that the visitors will stay back to see the opt-in box, you are highly mistaken. Most viewers are not even interested to know what the websites have to say about their products. The best way to swing their attention is to make a popup window on their arrival or an exit popup for when they depart, which will include an email sign up form for Aweber or Getresponse.

This will create awareness among the visitors and a call to action for them to sign up. Repeat visitors should not be bothered once they have seen the popups and if the visitor has opted in once, the popup should stop showing. This can be achieved by using cookies to indicate to the popup software that it’s a repeat visit and there is no need for the popup. The opt-in form should be used with a popup script to create the mailing list. First you need to show it to all the visitors, but then the frequency should be lessened.

When you are using this method to build your list, you should be careful about the number of times the popups will appear on the screen. Too many popups can be extremely irritating. You must sell your product or services, but you should never appear to be pushy. Even if you desperately want the mailing list of the potential customers, you should show your desperation in moderation. The customers will judge your interest and enthusiasm, but if matters go out of hand, they will most certainly be driven away.

Most website browsers do not like the concept of normal pop-ups. Who wants to get disturbed by the small windows which keep on appearing on screens every now and then? Here the solution could be to make an exit popup which actually appear when someone is leaving the page. They are less intrusive in nature which makes them less bothersome. You can actually use the help of exit pop-up windows as a last-chance pitch.

In order to avoid popup blockers, you should use Dynamic HTML and JavaScript popups. This is where the contents will be superimposed on the webpage in the form of a transparent layer, creating the effect of a popup window. The popup contents can be linked to the email opt in list form for Aweber or GetResponse or even a product page.

One should understand that the aim of popup windows is to create special emphasis on the sign up form or a product. So it should be clean design and not over crowded. One can be creative with the content and include freebies to add extra value to the offer like giving away free reports or downloads. Whatever the incentive is always be careful not to overdo it, make it real after all you are trying to get a human to call to action, so always put yourself in the visitor’s seat and get into the mindset of “how would I respond if it was presented to me.”

RSS Feeds in Popup Window

datePosted on 19:12, November 26th, 2009 by Robert Ward

I was wondering for some time now how I could put a RSS feed onto my website, so I decided to surf the net and find out how to do it fast, affordable and in such a way I could reproduce the results in different pages or client websites with a minimum of fuss.

My thoughts were that the easiest way to implement into an already existing page without disturbing the content, would be in a popup, this would also help with me being able to position anywhere on the screen and have more control over the entrance and closing of the popup for the browser, including the possibility to scroll with the page contents so my visitors always had it in their sight.

First I needed to find out how to install a RSS feed, because displaying it afterwards in an iframe popup window would be easy with my JavaScript popup window software. So after some time of searching through cyberspace junk and different piles of data on the subject I finally came across a small script in PHP which looked as if it would do the trick. The script was in two files one for the PHP functions to connect to a RSS feed and the other was to display the contents, but we don’t really need to know too much about their inner workings for now. Also I might add the script is open source and free to copy, use and distribute as long as we follow the owners instructions, which basically are not to sell the script as your own and to leave the credits untouched (I suggest you read them thoroughly before).

So now I had the script I needed to change it a little, as the original file logged on to CNN and BBC news, which wasn’t exactly what I was originally thinking of using for my own purposes. So I changed it to a UK tabloid newspapers football feed, published to my website and ran it in my web browser. Now I was impressed!! Here I am 30 minutes later with the RSS feed running on my website page and such an easy task. In fact the hardest part was finding the script, which I have linked to at the bottom of this article. It was so easy I actually decided to make a video tutorial describing it step by step for anyone who wants to put a RSS popup window on their website.

As I said at the beginning I wanted to insert the RSS feed into a popup window, so now that the RSS feed was working all I had to do was to copy the script’s URL and insert it into my popup window software HTML editor, which is detailed in the video tutorial at the link below. This was also a relatively easy task considering all you need is a text editor and a few right clicks of a mouse.

Within less than 15 minutes I had installed a RSS ticker in a popup window on my website.

Making Popups the Easy Way

datePosted on 19:10, November 26th, 2009 by Robert Ward

Some time ago I wanted to make a popup for my site to help my visitors find a specific product I was launching. After scouring the net for Dynamic HTML or Javascript pop up scripts I came to one conclusion. I was wasting my time! Alright I found scripts here and their and I even tried some of them out. The problem was none of the scripts were that easy to install nor were they easy to modify, especially given my limited technical knowledge of Javascript. After some time I thought to myself I have to change my strategy here, and although I generally like to find free bits and pieces of scripts and modify them myself, after wasting a whole day on this quest, I finally threw in the towel when realising I was just hitting a brick wall.

So what did I do, you might ask! Well for a start I had at least found out that the best way to install a popup was with Dynamic HTML and a little javascript, which I guess was a bonus. So I started to look on the search engines for that, “HTML javascript popup window software”. Well to my surprise (NOT) there were already a lot of talented programmers out there who had already dedicated their time and efforts to provide such a program. So after finding a bunch of programs and downloading them from various sources I set out to test the many packages out there which told me how good they are and what great benefits their software could provide to me.

I can tell you it was another day fiddling and playing, uploading and downloading but finally I narrowed it down to one good piece of software, which was actually free too, well at least for a sacrifice of limited functions. But what the hell I was up an I had my popup running and yet I could see the potential of this software and the bonuses you got after paying a very small fee, which I did after the first week of testing the software. I’m telling you it was worth it. For the price of less than half a days work I had a small comfortable standalone software package with which I could make Dynamic HTML javascript popup windows all day long and only for the one off registration fee. Plus the fact when I tried to get really snazzy (sometimes I do) and was getting stuck, the Technical support was first class and most of my queries were answered in less than 12hrs and if not within 24hrs tops!

Where did I find this Software you might want to know! Well you can visit this site for more information http://www.123javascriptpopup.com

Popup Software – A Good Way to Attract the Visitors’ Attention

datePosted on 19:07, November 26th, 2009 by Robert Ward

In the old days when people heard the word pop up they nearly always cringed and thought of something obtrusive. In those days javascript popups were rife and seemed to popup all over the place, and in some cases were the reason for the person visiting the site to leave all together. Not that you could get away because as soon as you closed the window another 5 popped up.

Now days nearly all modern day browsers have built in Software to block these unwanted attacks on our surfing pleasure. Hooray you might say, we dont want to go back to the chaos of those first popups. When I consider the pros and cons on the other hand, the little old popup is actually in some cases a very useful tool when used in the correct way and just because of some bad apples (or maybe I should I say orchards ), the rest of us designers and webmasters have had to suffer and limit our resources. With the new web 2.0 trend coming over the horizon, subtle and unblockable Dynamic HTML and Javascript popups or hover ads are now actually more available and likewise in demand, and if used correctly can actually help the web designer create more helpful functions and navigation aids.

The secret of these popups is that they lay in the DHTML layer and although they act a little like 1st generation popups (in the sense they can popup over the webpage itself) they cant actually leave the webpage they have sprung up on. Also these types of popups are less susceptible to pull a dirty trick like change your home page or attack your system and other such tricks their older cousins did in the past.

Unfortunately writing the code for a Dynamic HTML and Javascript popup window is beyond the talents of most people and so they have been left behind in this technology, but luckily there are some innovative programmers out there who have dedicated their time to making software that makes this task well within reach of our budgets without having to buy large programming packages which they will probably only use for the task at hand.

I am such a person who while in the last 4-5 five years have mastered XHTML, CSS and even some PHP, I do not really want to extend into learning Javascript just to write a popup function. So after trying and testing a number of applications I have narrowed my choice down to one overall good software to do the job for me. With this HTML popup tool I have been able to create banners, tooltips and unblockable popups using the DHTML layer and Javascript.

The beauty of the program is that I dont really have to know much about these languages to create a popup as its all done for me in the background, using a standalone software package. Although a small amount of HTML is required to do some really cool tricks the simple stuff is practically written for me and I can get a functional pop up or hover ads ready in minutes, and there are templates supplied to just copy and paste with my own content and links if I need. Now what makes this software really attractive, is that its designers are working every day to make it better and incorporating functions that are driven by its customers requests. Thus it has evolved from a simple Dynamic HTML and Javascript popup window launcher to something much more sophisticated and now you can even launch videos from youtube into a DHTML layer and display it in its own iframe, or coming soon will be the wordpress plugin and of course much more.

Why use this popup software and not a popup script

datePosted on 06:55, November 26th, 2009 by Robert Ward

When I was searching for a good pop up script some time ago I realised that even though Free to use a lot of scripts were not up to the job I needed doing.  Some reason listed here:

1.  Some of the pop up scripts actually didnt work or were too difficult or time consuming to implement.

2.  Most JavaScript  Pop up scripts didnt work with pop up blockers.

3.  Many pop up software packages were far too expensive for me and some didnt even allow me to try them first.

After a long time of research I finally found a good all round pop up software that suited me and my budget. The best reason I chose this pop up software was for its functionality and of course the free download I could access immidiately allowing me to evaluate the pop up software first.

Unlike many pop up scripts this popup software package was not blockable using popup blockers and came with a multitude of templates to get me started fast. Also I have the option of totally designing new templates and saving them which is great for my different websites and customers who want something unique for their website, which stands out from the rest.
